Shipshewana is located about 136 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, and about 5 miles south of the Michigan/Indiana state lines. It is a small town with a population of 658 in 2010.
Shipshewana is home to the Menno-Hof Amish and Mennonite Museum. This museum and other local attractions allow the town to boast of nearly 1 million tourists annually.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from early May until late September, Shipshewana hosts one of the largest flea markets in the country, certainly the largest in the Midwest.
If one is into antiquing, Shipshewana offers some of the country’s best antique selections to be found anywhere. There is also an abundance of new and used furniture bargains, and the craftsmanship of the Amish furniture is second to none.
This area of Indiana presents some of the most picturesque farms one can possibly find. It is well worth the time to explore the area and camp in one of the several RV campgrounds in and around Shipshewana.
As you enjoy your RV, keep in mind that someone from the Shipshewana area likely played a role in building your “home on wheels.” You’ll see many RV dealers and service centers in the vicinity of Shipshewana and throughout the northern communities of Indiana.
