New Castle is located about 43 miles east of downtown Indianapolis, and about 30 miles west of Richmond. The population of New Castle in 2010 was 18, 114 people.

New Castle boasts of having the largest high school gym in the world, known as the New Castle Fieldhouse. New Castle also has a past connected with the manufacturing of automobiles. Summit Lake State Park was established in 1988, becoming the 19th state park in Indiana. It covers about 2700 acres, including a large 800-acre lake. The park is in pristine condition, with lots of open prairie fields. In addition, the campsites offered are in great shape, including many in a wooded areas by the lakeside.

There are many activities for children, adults and those who enjoy the outdoors and water. The playgrounds are also quite inviting to the youngsters and their parents.

The lake offers much for everyone, including excellent fishing, a swimming beach, sail boating, canoeing, kayaking and much more.
