Marion is located about 56 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, and about 45 miles southwest of Fort Wayne. The population of Marion in 2010 was 29,948 people.
Indiana Wesleyan University is located in Marion. The city is also the birthplace of actor James Dean, as well as Jim Davis, the creator of the comic strips “Garfield”.
Every year, a re-enactment of the “Battle of the Mississinewa” is held in the month of October.
