Linton is located about 77 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis, and about 32 miles southeast of Terre Haute. The population of Linton in 2010 was 5,413 people.

 

The area is home to the Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area, and Linton also celebrates the largest Independence Day parade in Indiana. This week-long, annual event brings in over 40,000 people to enjoy the food, music, carnival rides and other assorted entertainment, including a large 4th of July fireworks display.

Linton is the home of David Letterman’s mother, Dorothy Mengering, and also the birthplace of comedian, actor Phil Harris.
