Leavenworth is located about 115 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, and about 12 miles west of Corydon. The population of Leavenworth in 2010 was 238 people.
In January of 1937, huge flooding of the Ohio River all but wiped out the town’s homes and buildings. The small town was relocated from it’s original boundaries up to an area at the top of a bluff, overlooking the Ohio River. A popular restaurant, The Overlook, serves up great food and beverages.
Leavenworth has a rich history connected to the early days of the Ohio riverboat industry and played a part of history in the Civil War.
