Ferdinand is located about 116 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis, and about 8 miles north of Santa Claus. The population of Ferdinand in 2010 was 2, 157 people.

In 1867, the Monastery of Immaculate Conception was founded in Ferdinand. Both the monastery and the Dr. Alois Wollenmann House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
