Charlestown is located about 99 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, and about 3 miles east of Sellersburg. The population of Charlestown in 2010 was
7, 585 people.

The southeastern edge of Charlestown is situated on the bank of the Ohio River.

The city has an attractive facility for families known as the Charlestown Family Activities Park. The park closes in late summer, but re-opens for the Christmas season with various activities planned for people of all ages.
