Santa Claus is located about 128 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis, and about 33 miles east of Evansville. The population of Santa Claus in 2010 was 2,481 people.

Originally, the town name was known as Santa Fe, but was changed because another town in Indiana named Santa Fe was already established with the United States Postal System. After several town meetings, the name Santa Claus was selected.

The area is largely developed around the theme of Christmas. Attractions include Santa’s Candy Castle, Santa Claus Museum, Christmas Lake Golf Course, and the ever-popular Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari amusement park. CLICK HERE for a link to the amusement park’s website.

Former quarterback and AFL great Bob Griese, who led the Miami Dolphins to three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, resulting in two Super Bowl victories, resided in Santa Claus at one time. Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, who played for the Miami Dolphins, the Denver Broncos and the Chicago Bears, was born in Santa Claus.
