Monticello is located about 76 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis, and about 23 miles northeast of Lafayette. The population of Monticello in 2010 was 5,378 people.


The city was named after the estate of President Thomas Jefferson. Monticello has three prominent structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
