Martinsville is located about 27 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis, and about 18 miles northeast of Bloomington. The population of Martinsville in 2010 was 11,828 people.


Martinsville was once referred to as the “Goldfish Capital of the World” due to the many fisheries located in the area.

Notable people with ties to Martinsville include ULCA basketball coach John Wooden and Bobby Helms, the infamous country singer best known for his popular seasonal hit “Jingle Bell Rock.”
